This is a page telling you how to move from spending all day clicking for pennies, to setting up a website and letting the dollars come to you!

1. realize that it really CAN be done (I know, because I'm doing it).
2. think of a theme for your website. What are you interested in? What are you good at?
3. create your website
4. probably the most important step - get your own domain name!
5. sign up for some advertising companies

You're probably like me before I ventured into the realm of a 'real' website. Sure, I'd heard that some people made money out of their websites - but that was them, this was me, and it's not something I could do or know how to do. The first step you need to take is to realise that you CAN do it. Anybody can. You just have to want to, and do it. Sure, you won't be making millions off your website - some do, I know I don't. However, if you'd like a bit of extra income, then this is definitely worth considering. THIS is the way you can make money while you sleep - your website will still get visitors even while you're in bed, in the shower, hey - even if you go away for a week! I finally made the plunge into moving my website from a free host to a paid host. Why? Because the free host put 3 popups on my site - every page. It was too much, I could see that would just drive visitors away. I figured I could pay for a host, put ONE cookied popup on the site (so it only popped once per day) and it had to be better. Best move I ever made!

You need to consider what kind of website you'd like to build. Build. Doesn't that word scare you? After all, you can't build websites! Fortunately, there are quite a few 'drag and drop' type of thingies out there, which allows you to build a website with no html knowledge. If you'd like to try your hand at doing it with html, there's plenty of tutorials out there to get you going (this site for example). Ok, back to the theme of your website. Is there anything you're good at doing? Build a page saying how to DO it! There's bound to be someone out there who is looking for information on how to do what you're doing. Are you knowledgable about a certain subject, as in computer repairs - a whiz at windows, colicky babies (or horses!) or even how to raise budgies? If so, get your knowledge down on a website - someone will need that information!

Now you know what your site is going to be about - you need to actually build it. You can do this in raw html, or download a drag and drop editor to do the job. Actual Drawing is one you can use, you can download it for free here. Take a look at other websites, see how they look. Don't copy someone else's website!!!. This is basically theft. Just see how other sites are layed out, it will help you to get a look for your own website.

This is the step that most people don't realise is a good one to take. Your own domain name. Have a bit of a read of free vs paid hosting to see why a domain name is one of the best moves you can make with a website. Basically, it opens up more advertisers (usually better paying ones) for you to use. It's well worth the investment! I have half a dozen or so domain names now - even the ones that don't get much traffic at all, cover the cost of the domain/hosting. Definately a wise move to make. All you need is a popup like popuptraffic on your site, put it into your favourite traffic exchange, and watch your income grow!

One advertiser you should apply for is google adsense. They pay a varying rate for each click, ranging from around 3c through to a few $$. The advertising displays as a box of text links, and is targetted to your site content. This means that if someone comes to your site looking for something - chances are there will be google links which will catch their eye related to the same thing they are looking for. Nice and targetted - which means chances are, there's going to be clickthroughs.

If you put popups on your site - please - consider the visitors to your site. Limit them to one popup per session (there's scripts to do this, or you can set it through the advertiser). You usually only get paid once per 12 hours or so for the same person, so it's not really worth popping one every page!

Some advertisers have a minimum traffic requirement - usually around 100 visitors a day or so. If your website reaches that amount of visitors, and is layed out reasonably well with good content - look at joining Fastclick or Burst. These two companies have CPM banners - meaning you'll get paid for impressions. Casalemedia are a great company too, and pay like clockwork.
